‘Hi! My name is Jai Monaghan, and I am the owner of Minicranks in Ohau, Horowhenua. I got involved with Minis at a young age, and I have worked with and learnt from some international legends of the Mini fraternity. I moved to New Zealand from South Africa in 2000 and have been involved with Minis on a club and national level.

I opened Minicranks in 2001, but family expansion and a change of location saw us put business on hold in 2012, However, I continued to work part-time and stayed involved with Minis working from our rural property tuning and building them for close friends and loyal customers.

I decided it was time to put my electronics background to better effect and committed to being involved in tuning but supplying products to suit my customers’ needs. Unfortunately, Mini is only a small portion of the New Zealand car market and was constantly being asked to get distributors and ignitions for other cars. That’s why 4 years ago, I committed to expanding my portfolio to work with other brands of cars.The expansion has now put us as one of the largest ignition specialists in New Zealand, we also export to a few places that require our specialist needs. 

I now fit bespoke kits to suit nearly all models of cars previously fitted with points and condensers and upgrade them to electronic ignition, benefits of this are you can retain your original distributor, it fits under the cap, you don't have to upgrade the coil (but there are benefits to doing this) thus making the upgrade more reliable, have a better economy, have easier starting, have more power and cleaner burning to name but a few benefits of converting to a more modern type ignition.

We now stock, Accuspark stealth, Powerspark, Pertronix Ignitor and Sparkrite Ignition systems. We also stock other brands such as bosch and 123 Ignitions to to compliment our range.
